3-Strand Cord

Ecclesiastes 4:12 – Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Emphasis added.

Early in my relationship with the Lord, this verse quickly became one of my favorites especially when the Holy Spirit revealed to me that the 3-fold/-strand cord represents God, husband and wife in a marriage. Over the years, I’ve often used that verse and the revelation of its meaning to speak blessings over the marriages of others. What better way to cover a marriage than with that which is indicated to make it “not quickly (or easily) broken”? As I planned our wedding, yes it is possible to plan your own, focusing on our goals of glorifying God and celebrating our union in the wedding, I had a growing desire to do a 3-strand cord ritual in the ceremony. After much internet research, I found exactly what I wanted at the God’s Knot website. It came with the three cords intertwined on a lovely ring which would allow them to be hung for display, a card explaining the significance of the colors of each cord and items to keep the cords together once they’re braided. It was perfect especially with it having one of our wedding’s colors in it, gold! Watching our wedding video today with Brian, I was reminded just how much of a spiritual and beautiful part of our wedding the 3-strand cord ritual was. I highly recommend it in lieu of a unity candle or anything else because it most exemplifies God’s desire for our marriage, great intimacy (from being intertwined with Him and each other) and strength (not easily or quickly broken)!
